Porsche the Puppy Thief

Porsche desperately wants to steal the Dane pups in the spare room.  She thinks she would make a much better mama and doesn't see the point in giving birth to her own young when there is a perfectly healthy litter of seven so near.  Harley disagrees with some very deep growls!  Every time I go through the baby gate to check on the Danes its like I have a Doberman attached to my leg.  Half the time I don't even realize she has came in behind me!  I think she is going to make an excellent mama!  She is very sweet and maternal by nature.   Cinders won't go near the new pups. She is very pleased that they are not hers.  I imagine she will be the same with Porsche's pups.   Brandi Williams Masaya Dobermans www.masayadobermans.com

One Boy Comes Back Another Boy Leaves

After much inner debate, I decided to place Vader.  Vader is everything I could ever want in a schutzhund Doberman.  Civil with phenomenal drives and extreme confidence and grips.  He is his mother with testosterone.  Unfortunately, Vader still has an overbite.  The more I work this boy the more attached I get and the more depressed that such an awesome dog has such a fault.  I feel fortunate that what I feel is the perfect home came up for my baby.  Vader is going to a competition schutzhund home where he will be part of the family and most important he will be close by where I can watch his progress and be available if things don't work out.   About a week before I placed Vader, I bought Razor back.  Razor's previous owner was a shepherd guy and he decided he wanted to purchase a trained shepherd.  Razor came with rave reviews from his previous owner and fellow club members.  I got to work this  boy last weekend and I was very impressed with his balanced drives and super calm grips.  A very nice boy with a solid foundation. He is also a complete sweetheart and a wonderful household addition.  He is a wonderful schutzhund prospect and I anticipate good things for his future.   Brandi Williams Masaya Dobermans www.masayadobermans.com

Here is a picture of Porsche at 6 weeks pregnant. The vet believed the ultrasound showed 5 pups. I'm not so sure since we still have 3 weeks to go!

Happy Birthday Arras!

Arras is the father of our "A" litter- Porsche, Alex, Rain, and Tessa.  He turned a very healthy 11yrs old today!!   On a side note, Cinders cut the pad of her paw almost 2 wks ago.  Unfortunately, she reopened the wound and its driving my crazy as I wanted to get as much training in as I can before the pups come.  I am thinking about wrapping it and putting a boot on her so we can run blinds. Porsche Puppies Coming!

I haven't written for a while.  The Dobes and I have kept busy.  Vader's training is coming along well. I have been going slowly with and building a solid foundation.  He is a natural tracker and very confident in the bitework.  His obedience has been improving lots too.  He still reminds me so much of his mother that its crazy.   Cinders' obedience is doing lots better.  Using the pinch on her waist seems to be helping a lot with her foraging.  Her corners in tracking are doing much better too.  Control in protection has been doing well, but we took about a month off in protection due to weather etc and when we went to train in Nashville this last weekend control wasn't great.   Porsche is now 1 month pregnant.  I am really excited to see what she and Orinoco throw together.  I anticipate that by line-breeding on the Black Gong side we will bring some natural aggression and excellent grips to the table.  Then add in very correct conformation and this should be an exceptional litter.  Ultrasound showed 5 pups.  I am hoping there is a nice female in the litter for me.  Porsche has been ultra sweet and maternal.  She has been grooming everyone and wants to kiss me and be held all the time.  She is SOOOOO SWEET. Crunch Time!

Getting down to the wire and I still have not decided upon a male to breed Porsche too.  Its so hard.  There just aren't a lot of nice working Doberman males out there.  Especially when you are looking at health, longevity, work ethic, pedigree, and conformation.  Add to that the fact that for some reason, some people don't feel the need to health test.   I wish I could combine about 3 males into the perfect stud dog.  Unfortunately,  I just can't.  No dog is perfect.  The idea is to look at what the female brings to the table and to find a complimentary male.  But thats only half the picture.  Porsche brings an excellent pedigree, size, good conformation, natural tracking ability,   a very sweet temperament with a natural protectiveness,full hard grips, TONS of drive,  very high compliance, some very good health history, and a sense of humor (she always makes you smile -no matter what she is always happy).  Oh yeah, she is also a tattle tell.  She always comes and tells me when someone else is into something they shouldn't' t be  (of course she doesn't when she is involved in the caper!) I can't believe that I am so close and still haven't decided.   I have to make a decision.... very soon.

Training, Training , and More Training

We have been training every weekend.  Cinders heeling is beautiful now!  We are hoping to take the AWDF by storm and show the world that Cinders is her daddy's daughter... but we still have a long way to go.  We have improvement across the board.  Our weak area, however, remains weak.  Cinders blinds are still poor.  We have been working with only 2 blinds so far, but we did visit an area club and run blinds Saturday and will continue to do so until we purchase some more blinds.     He stand out of motion improved a lot for the last session.  Raad Messmar and I have been working together (doing helper work for his 90lb shepherd is why I am SO sore).  Raad came up with an excellent idea to improve the stand out of motion.  Basically making forks that hit the dog at chest height.  They provide a physical barrier (they are flexible) and are working wonderfully.   Using a pinch collar on Cinders waist has dramatically improved her healing in a very short time.  I took a video yesterday that I will upload and post on her webpage and face book in a few days.  It didn't take long at all to end her foraging and I wonder why I have not seen it used more often.    Sit out of motion is speeding up.  Her down out of motion has always been good.  Working on straightening her recalls and finishes.   In protection, her control is excellent.  No more foraging on the back transport.  Outs are quick and clean and intensity is high.  I had started to worry about her grips (never been an issue before) recently as I had seen some bad grips from her, but I am relieved that it was poor helper work  as her grips are rock solid and very deep again.  Genetics will always hold true, so will a solid foundation.  Cinders foundation work with Mo was excellent and she is working true to that again.   Tracking is improving slowly as I have only been tracking her 1x per week.  Laying the practice track a little different has helped to improve her corners (her only issue ever in tracking).    I am confident the her tracking will be ready this spring.    Vader What can I say about my boy?   I am very impressed.  He hasn't had much training as I have been working his mother and sister a lot.  He has only been tracked 3 xs in his life, but shows a naturally deep nose and very good concentration.  In bitework, his grips are solid.  He is very civil, very confident, and very powerful.  Obedience is improving.  Lots of food and ball drive.  He really just needs worked more.  For him, I am taking the slow road.  I think he could be a contender.  I want him to show all those shepherd people out there what a REAL Dog is.
